The Advocate

"A client does not need a lawyer who promises. They need one who prepares — and tells them the truth about their case before the other side does."

Common Questions

Questions people ask before hiring a lawyer in Pune

Short, direct answers — the ones we give on the phone every week.

How much does a lawyer charge in Pune?
Fees vary by matter and forum. A first consultation is a fixed, modest charge; litigation is quoted either as a stage-wise fee or per appearance. Whatever the structure, you receive it in writing before any work begins, and no invoice will contain a charge that was not explained to you.
Which court handles divorce cases in Pune?
Divorce and most matrimonial matters in Pune are heard by the Family Court at Shivajinagar. Maintenance can also be pursued before the Magistrate's Court under Section 125 BNSS, and domestic violence applications go to the Magistrate rather than the Family Court.
What is the difference between a lawyer, an advocate and a senior advocate?
In India, an advocate is a law graduate enrolled with a State Bar Council and entitled to appear in court. “Lawyer” is the broader, informal term. “Senior Advocate” is a formal designation conferred by the High Court or Supreme Court, distinct from simply being experienced.
How do I check if an advocate in Pune is genuine?
Ask for the Bar Council enrolment number and verify it with the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa. Then ask which courts they appear in regularly and how often. Enrolment establishes they may practise; regular appearance in your court is what actually matters.
Do I need a lawyer to send a legal notice?
Not legally, but it is usually worth it. A notice drafted with the correct legal basis, the right relief and a defensible timeline settles more disputes than an angry one, and it becomes evidence if the matter proceeds. A poorly drafted notice can damage your own case.
How long does a court case take in Pune?
It depends entirely on the type. A mutual consent divorce can conclude in five to eight months; a contested civil suit commonly runs two to four years; a partition suit three to six. Interim relief — bail, maintenance, injunctions — is usually decided far faster than the main matter.
